A Sky News team was forced to shelter from Russian artillery shells while filming in trenches near the key battleground town of Bakhmut.

Fierce fighting has been raging for months in the area of eastern Ukraine in what has become known as the “meat grinder” because of the number of casualties inflicted on both sides.

Troops are enduring freezing temperatures as well as the constant threat to their lives.
