Musician Rex Orange County is to stand trial next year after being accused of sexually assaulting a woman.

The 24-year-old, from Surrey, appeared at Southwark Crown Court in London on Monday.

The singer-songwriter, whose real name is Alexander O’Connor, pleaded not guilty to six counts of sexual assault.

His trial is scheduled for 3 January, with a further court hearing due to take place before then on 24 October this year.

A statement from his representative said: “Alex is shocked by the allegations, which he denies, and looks forward to clearing his name in court.

“He is unable to make any further comment because of the ongoing proceedings.”

The star has collaborated with US rappers including Tyler, The Creator – and in March earned his first UK number one album with his fourth studio album, Who Cares?

In July, he announced he was cancelling his European, Australian and New Zealand tour dates “due to unforeseen personal circumstances”.
