The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised seven additional sexual assault charges against Kevin Spacey.

The CPS said they relate to a number of sexual assaults against a man between 2001 and 2004.

There is also a charge of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent.

The charges come as a result of evidence gathered by the Metropolitan Police, the head of the CPS special crime division said.

Spacey, 63, has already pleaded not guilty to allegations in the UK that stretch back 17 years.

They include four charges of sexual assault and one of causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent that relate to alleged incidents in London and Gloucestershire involving three men in their 30s and 40s.

Spacey is known for starring roles in American Beauty and The Usual Suspects, for which he won Oscars, and the hit US political thriller series House Of Cards.

He was artistic director at the Old Vic between 2004 and 2015.
