A man has been arrested after two people were stabbed at a hospital in northwest London.

Armed officers responded after calls at 1.18pm that two had been stabbed at Central Middlesex Hospital.

One of the victims has life-threatening injuries and a second has non-life threatening injuries.

A man was arrested outside the hospital and is receiving treatment for injuries believed to be self-inflicted.

His condition is also being treated as life-threatening, the Metropolitan Police said.

In a statement, police said officers will remain in the hospital as further searches are conducted but “at this time they are satisfied that no one else is sought”.

The incident is not being treated as terror-related.

“The hospital was temporarily locked down but has now re-opened and will be operating services as normal. There is a heightened police presence at the hospital while we investigate,” police said.

The London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust, which runs the hospital, said it is an “ongoing incident” and urged people to follow any instructions given by police.

Reports on social media suggested that patients had to shelter in safe rooms, but this has not been officially confirmed.

In a statement on Twitter, London Ambulance Service said it was at the scene with paramedics and an air ambulance and hazardous environment team have also been dispatched.

“The incident is ongoing and we are working with our emergency services partners,” they said.
